The one place off-leash is allowed

A dog run is a fenced enclosure with a gate and a sign setting out the rules. Inside it your dog may be off the leash. Everywhere else in public — including the park the run sits in — a leash is required. Leash up at the double gate before you leave, and unclip only once the inner gate is shut.

Rules that apply inside the fence

Stay with your dog and watch it rather than your phone; you are responsible for what it does. Clean up immediately. Specified breeds must be muzzled in public under AVS rules, including inside a run. Leave if a fight starts brewing instead of waiting to see how it resolves, and do not bring a dog that is unwell, in season, or not yet fully vaccinated.

Hours and busy periods

Most runs follow their park and stay open around the clock, but a few have a posted window on the gate — the sign always beats anything published online. Evenings after work and weekend mornings are the busiest. A crowded run is a poor first outing for a dog still learning to greet politely, so try an off-peak visit first.
